Forecourt Controller (FCC) Systems control dispensers, outdoor payment terminals, price signs, tank controllers and so on. They can be either embedded or PC based. There are so many different systems and application models in the world. Some FCC systems offer both FCC and POS functionalities together. I will give some information about most popular and well-known Forecourt Controller Systems here.
I. Software Forecourt Controller Systems (PC based Forecourt Controller Systems)
Actually, most popular forecourt controller systems are embedded devices but there are also a few good PC-based forecourt controller software options for gas stations. They have some advantages and disadvantages in compare to embedded systems. For instance, they are not as robust as embedded systems but they are more flexible, extendable and can have Vehicle Identification Systems (VIS) integration, loyalty and POS integration modules, better ATG (Automatic Tank Gauging Systems) calibration algorithms etc. The best option has always been controversial but in my opinion it depends on the country, oil company, gas station location, physical conditions of it, loyalty application types and government regulations. II. Embedded Forecourt Controller Systems
As I said above, most popular forecourt controller systems are embedded devices and they have the greatest portion of the world market. They are robust, requires less service and easily replaceable but their capabilities are very limited. If you want to use Vehicle Identification Systems (VIS) or set up a loyalty application you will need a PC and POS/BOS software solutions.
